ball game??? Yeah. What's that? Sorry, I can't tell you about Jake's first baseball game ... because we DIDN'T HAVE IT!!!
Mother nature is really pissin' me off. There are so many things we look forward to. Most are not all that important, but some are. To us! One of those really important ones was Jake's first baseball game. Remember, the one he had to try out for? And then ... try out again!!!
I mean, really, he's only been practicing since November. He is the worst one on the team, by far, but gosh darn it, we were still so excited to see him play. And he IS excited to play! Oblivious to the cold hard facts about his size and ability (compared to the other kids), he is ready to go out and give it his all! We can't ask for more than that, can we? I'm quite proud!
It was supposed to be "chilly" yesterday evening, and they are required to wear a black shirt under their jersey. Jake was begging for a specific shirt type of shirt. Underarmor? I personally had never heard of it, but that shouldn't surprise you ... I'm not very up on things like that. Denying my child of what he really wanted, I went searching for a different long sleeved shirt ... would he really know the difference? A long sleeved black shirt is a long sleeved black shirt, right? I looked several places, and no one seems to carry long sleeved shirts in April. Surprised?
One trip to Dicks Sporting Goods. They had plenty. An uneasy feeling came over me, as I knew this couldn't be good. It wasn't. I handed over $40 (yes, $40) for a long sleeved shirt that Jake will wear maybe twice. But what the hell, you only go around once, right? It's not very often that I can make my kids happy ... according to them.
Anyway, the game was canceled. Next game ... Saturday. Forecast 82 degrees. Don't think we'll be needing that $40 shirt.
Can you say "sucker"?
Yes. I am.
